No. 18 Tradition! Including an annual meltdown
Thursday, December 18, 2008
Once again we find ourselves enmeshed in the Holiday Season,
that very special time of year when we join with our loved ones in sharing centuries-old traditions such as trying to find a parking space at the mall.
We traditionally do this in my family by driving around the parking lot until we see a shopper emerge from the mall, then we follow her,
in very much the same spirit as the Three Wise Men,
who 2,000 years ago followed a star, week after week,
until it led them to a parking space.

Tradition…….Our holidays are full of them. The word tradition is derived from the Latin word tradition which means “to hand down”. So each year I work hard to keep our traditions alive, hoping my own children will continue some of them and pass them down to their own children someday!
My traditions include an annual meltdown! Yep, even I have a meltdown once during the holiday hoopla! Once its over and my prince breathes a sigh of relief, he knows then I’m good shape for the rest of the season. What can I say I am human! My family and friends look forward to many of our traditions each year, and even though they can be come a bit overwhelming at times, I couldn’t image the season without them. It’s never too late to start a tradition, here are some of ours………….
-
I read a Christmas novel……..Yes, with all I do through out the season I carve the time out to read this story.
-
I always stick an orange or apple in the toe of the Christmas stocking when stuffing them with goodies
I exchange the same ornament back and forth with my good friend and business partner Ed. This ‘friendship’ ball has been going back and forth for quite a few years!
-
Buy a new Nutcracker for our family collection
-
In our family my nieces & nephews exchange gifts with my children, but the gifts need to be made by the kids…………..neat huh? My sister came up with this tradition
-
I buy special ornaments for my God Children each year. They each have a theme………when they are old enough for their own trees someday they will have quite a collection!
-
My Christmas letter…….
-
Celbrate a traditional meatless Polish Christmas Eve
-
We started a new traditon this year based on the Christmas novel I read last year, Chrismas Jars…………Read the story and you probably can figure our our new family tradition!
-
My mom makes a birthday cake for baby Jesus………
So there you have it, a touch of my traditions…..go ahead you can steal a few if you’d like, or make your own.
Either way, have them………… they are good for the soul! And……….the meltdown, go ahead have that too ~ you will feel better after!
